Whilst touring northern England on holiday, John first visited the great fells of the English Lake District. Being so close to Scotland, he decided to travel over the border just for one day, to say that he had been there.

The origins of Country Artists can be traced back to 1978 to a small country cottage in Tanworth-in-Arden, located in Warwickshire County. During this time, through experimentation, it was discovered that traditional materials could be mixed with resins to produce a medium, perfect for sculpting.

Today, a highly skilled team of artists from Stratford-upon-Avon create beautifully designed sculptures for the Country Artists Collections. The origins of Lladró date back to a small craft workshop built in the mid-1950s in Almácera, near Valencia, Spain. Driven by their artistic restlessness and the desire for a better life, the three brothers, Juan, José and Vicente Lladró, sought new ways to produce porcelain. The public was immediately enthusiastic about their creations and in a short time, the small workshop was expanded several times.

A growing number of collaborators joined the team and the brothers’ work was able to reach even more interested people. Today, the sculptures born in the City of Porcelain are exported to more than 120 countries. What most moves those who admire artistic porcelain is the human message within the Lladro and Nao range of figures .

Royal Doulton porcelain and china takes its name from John Doulton, who in 1815 joined with Martha Jones founded Lambeth Pottery, a ceramics operation in Lambeth, England. John Doulton had learned his trade at the Fulham Manufacturing Co. well known as one of the first English commercial producers of stoneware.

While operations began as Jones, Watts, and Doulton, the firm soon assumed the name of Doulton and made a wide variety of decorative objects for an affluent buyer. Soon, John Doulton and his son Henry had established themselves as makers of fine English stoneware which rivaled the finest in the world.
