Lilliput Lane The Miller & The Mariner |
|
The Miller And The Mariner has been inspired by two of Lytham's favourite icons and truly captures the essence of our popular seaside town. Featuring red brick with flint infill and a small bell tower, the original Lytham Lifeboat Station is the oldest on the Fylde coast. The present lifeboat station house opened in 1960. the name of the first lifeboat station is unknown but was supplied by The Shipwrecked Fishermen and Mariner's Society and local subscriptions in 1884. When foreign imports of grain were cut off during the Napoleonic wars, many windmills, just like the tower windmill depicted here, began to appear all over the country in response to the need for greater home production. Erected in 1804, just yards from the sea on 'The Marsh' (now Lytham Green), Lytham Windmill remains one of the town's most photographed buildings. |
